Eighth Day December 10th, 2013

December 10,  2013 was my eighth day working at Hillside Preschool. The kids played outside for a bit and then we went in to play board games. However, I decided to read a Christmas story to them since Christmas is around the corner. They enjoyed it because they wanted me to keep reading stories. After a while we brought out some puzzles for them. Most of the children already know how to put the puzzles together because they always play with that puzzle and they remembered how it went. I had to leave early this day because they were having a Christmas program and everyone got picked up early.

Seventh Day December 3, 2013

Tuesday December 3, 2013 was my seventh day doing my hours for my senior project. The children ran around outside even though it was very cold. Since it was cold we went in early. When we got inside the children took off their jackets and began to play cards or board games. Once a child didn't want to play with that game they would put that game away and ask for another one. Part of going to pre-school is too learn how to put things away and ask politely for things. Most of the children know their manners and are pretty good at putting things away. However there are some that don't know where things belong an sometimes need help.

Sixth Day November 26th, 2013

My Sixth Day at the preschool was on November 26th. This day went by pretty fast because most of the kids had either left early that day or didn't go to school because they went on vacation for Thanksgiving break. Since its fall almost winter we went inside early because it was cold and getting dark out. However the children still wanted to play so we took a jump rope and we played with that inside. They had a blast and each time someone parent came to pick them, they would jump to show their parents. After we all sat on the carpet and played a game that included singing and dancing. Every time the teacher or I would say the persons name that child had to stand up and dance. Then we let the kids play puzzles and blocks but one little boy had an accident and didn't tell us. Another little boy noticed he was wet and told us that. The boy that had the accident said he couldn't hold it but he wanted to continue to play. We talked to him about going to the bathroom first before playing and he agreed to let us know next time if he needs to go. Next time I am going to make sure I ask everyone if they need to use the bathroom before playing so an incident like this doesn't happen again.

Fifth Day November 19, 2013

Tuesday November 19was my fifth day working at the Hillside Preschool. Since it was raining we stayed inside the whole time I was there. It was a bit chaotic because the kids were inside all day and were not able to burn their energy. Some of the children were playing with puzzles, legos and others colored. I stayed were the children were coloring to see if any of them needed help. Some of them asked me to spell their names even though they knew how too so I pretended to not know how and asked them if they could spell it for me. My little plan worked because I assured them that I didn't know how to spell their names and that they did know so they showed me how to do it. While they showed me, they kept asking to see if they were doing it right. I noticed that they just wanted someone to tell them or ask them to do it themselves. Basically they needed someone to encourage them to do something. My goal for next time is to keep encouraging them so that they will do things on their own.

Fourth Day November 12, 2013

Tuesday Novemeber 12, was my fourth time working at Hillside Preschoool. This day was a bit different because instead of me moving the rope for the children to play jump rope, the children themselves did it. They asked me if they can do what I was doing so i decided to teach them. I guess because they saw how i would move the rope up and down, they wanted to try it out. They kinda already had an idea on how to use the jump rope from watching me swing it. However, I still need to show them how to use it properly because they just swing it in random motions. Once they got the hang of it I will let them do it themselves.

Third Day Tuesday November 5th, 2013

Last Tuesday was my third day at the preschool. When I got there i greeted all the children and began to play with them. The past two times that I was there I played jump rope with them therefore when they saw me they automatically asked if they could use the jump rope. I find it interesting how when they see me they think of the jump rope. After we played jump rope we went inside and played card games. It was a bit challenging because the kids had a lot of energy and they wouldn't stop moving around but once i told them they cant play if their not quite and don't listen. Once I said that they calmed down and we played. I noticed that it was this one child in particular that had a lot of energy and because of him acting the way he did, the others began to act the same. At the end of the day I was tired but i had fun hanging out with them.

Second Day October 29, 2013

Last Tuesday was my second time working at the Preschool. When I got there the children ran up to me and said they had missed me. This made me feel good and I also missed them. This time I went straight to interacting with the children. The director of the school and I played jump rope with the children as well as other games. When we first started jump roping it was kind of difficult because some children didn't know how to jump rope. Some needed my assistance and others watched the ones that did know how to jump rope and learned that way. After a couple of rounds they all seemed to get the hang of it. Seeing them smile and having fun playing made my day.

My First Day October 22, 2013

Tuesday was my first time actually working with preschoolers. I wasn't nervous but I was excited to start working with them. At first I just stood there watching them but then my mentor was playing games with them and she told me to come join them. I had a lot of fun, we played cards, puzzles, and I watched them draw. I tried to help them whenever my help was needed. My next task will be to automatically begin interacting with the children instead of just waiting for my mentor to tell me.
